Underwater Adventure: Swim with Sea Turtles and Explore Stunning Cenotes
On this half-day snorkeling tour in the Caribbean Sea and in cenotes, we invite you to explore the unique underwater worlds that can be discovered through swimming and snorkeling. A cenote is a natural sinkhole in the limestone, leading to underground rivers and water streams.
On Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, there are over 3,000 of these fascinating sinkholes. The ancient Maya viewed them as sacred wells or sites for offerings, and they also considered them gateways to the underworld. The term “cenote” originates from the Maya and translates to “sacred spring.”
One of the most impressive cenotes is the Ox Bel Ha system, one of the world’s longest underwater cave systems stretching over 250 km. You’ll find fully submerged cenotes, semi-open, and open cenotes, as well as those that act purely as freshwater springs. Many of these cenotes are interconnected, forming an extensive network of caves. They are a paradise for divers and snorkelers alike. On our snorkeling tour, you’ll witness mesmerizing light and shadow effects created by limestone formations that have developed over thousands of years.
Entering these otherworldly spaces feels like stepping into a different realm. Whether you’re diving beneath the water’s surface or marveling at the stalactites hanging from the cave ceilings, the experience is magical. It’s no surprise that many cenotes are popular filming locations due to their breathtaking colors and shapes. Swimming through these grottos and observing this natural phenomenon is truly unforgettable.
The crystal-clear water allows you to see distant rock formations, creating an almost mystical atmosphere. The underground pools can be up to 12 meters deep, attracting not only experienced divers but also those new to snorkeling. Even if you have little or no experience, this tour is well worth it.
In the Caribbean Sea, you can admire vibrant coral reefs, colorful fish, and, if you’re lucky, even sea turtles. The water temperature is around 24°C, ensuring a comfortable swim even during extended sessions. Drinks and a light snack are provided to help you recharge during this adventure.
