Day Trip to Teotihuacan in English

The journey begins with a visit to the **Plaza of the Three Cultures**, where you can see pre-Hispanic walls, a colonial church with a monastery, and modern buildings. The tour continues to the **Basilica of Guadalupe**, located at the **Plaza de las Américas**, where the old and new basilicas stand side by side. The new basilica was completed in 1979 for the first visit of Pope John Paul II. It is the most important pilgrimage site in Mexico, accommodating 30,000 worshippers in the square and another 10,000 inside. Pilgrims come to venerate the miraculous dark-skinned **Virgin of Guadalupe**, who appeared to a poor farmer in 1531 on the hill of **Tepeyac**. To avoid congestion from the large number of daily visitors, a moving walkway has been installed to pass before the holy image of the Virgin.

Special days like **December 12**, the birthday of the Virgin, draw thousands of worshippers to the image. The tour then continues to **Teotihuacan**, "where men became gods," one of the most important archaeological sites and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. Explore the impressive structures along the 2.5 km-long **Avenue of the Dead**, including the **Sun and Moon Pyramids**, which you can climb. Teotihuacan was a powerful and wealthy metropolis during the classical period, flourishing between 250 and 750 AD. Deities such as the rain god **Tlaloc** and the feathered serpent **Quetzalcoatl** were born here. After lunch, we return to your hotel.
