Walking Tour of Chapultepec Castle on the "Hill of the Grasshoppers," Now the National History Museum
Chapultepec Castle, located on the so-called "Hill of the Grasshoppers," was originally built in 1785 for the Viceroy of New Spain. Later, it became a military academy, then the residence of Emperor Maximilian of Habsburg, and was also used by Porfirio Díaz. Since 1944, the "Castillo" has served as Mexico’s National History Museum. The park surrounding the castle was used by the Aztecs and today serves as a green oasis for Mexico City’s residents.
Dictatorship and revolution are just a few of the aspects of the history that paved the rocky road to becoming a democratic republic. Admire aristocratic furnishings and collections of all kinds. From the castle’s terrace, enjoy the best view of the "Paseo de la Reforma" boulevard and a panoramic view of Mexico City.
After the castle tour, we continue to the Roma and Condesa neighborhoods. These adjacent and now upscale districts of Mexico City are home to buildings from the first half of the 20th century. Promenades, markets, squares, and green parks invite you to linger. The oval-shaped park and the Avenida México and Amsterdam streets were once part of the former racetrack located in the Condesa district.
Galleries, boutiques, and the city’s trendiest bars and restaurants are found in these two neighborhoods. The motto here is "See and be seen." We will visit the popular restaurant Azul Condesa, known for its traditional Mexican dishes. The menu offers a variety of specialties, giving us a small glimpse into the vast selection of Mexican cuisine, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2010. The preparation methods often rely on ancient rituals and techniques. "Buen Provecho!"
